Apple Cream Puffs
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups water
4 sliced apples
1 1/2 cups flour
14 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
3 Tbsp. margarine
1/2 cup milk
FILLING
2 tsp. butter
2 tsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
6 “Red Hots” cinnamon drop candies
Bring sugar and water to a boil; drop the peeled, sliced apples into sugar water and simmer until tender.
Transfer apples to a baking dish.
Sift flour with salt and baking powder.
Cut in margarine and stir in milk.
Drop the dough in six equal parts on the apples.
Mix filling except “Red Hots;” make a small depression in the top of each puff and add filling.
Bake, uncovered, 30 minutes at 400º until top is delicately browned.
Serve with ice cream.
