What’s Cookin’?

Fettuccine Alfredo
12 oz. fettuccine
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
2/3 cup sour cream or light cream
1/4 lb. sweet butter
1 egg yolk
Cook noodles per package directions.
Beat egg yolk; add to cream.
Melt butter.
Place drained noodles on a warm platter. Pour egg cream mixture, butter and half the cheese over noodles.
Toss until well blended.
Add remaining cheese; toss again.
Serve with additional grated cheese.
Excellent with ham.
 
Ham Baked with Mustard
Ham slices, 1” thick
4 Tbsp. brown sugar
2 Tbsp. flour,
2 tsp. dry mustard,
Freshen ham by parboiling, if necessary. Place in baking pan, add small amount water to prevent sticking.
Cover each slice with mixture of sugar, flour and dry mustard.
Cook on stove top until tender.
 
Glorified Gingerbread
2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup shortening
1 egg
1/3 cup molasses
1 cup sour milk
1 tsp. baking soda
Sift together flour, sugar, cinnamon, ginger and salt; add shortening. Mix as for pie crust. Take out 1/2 cup of the mixture and reserve for later.
To the remainder, add: 1 beaten egg, 1/3 cup molasses and 1 cup sour milk in which 1 tsp. soda has been dissolved.
Stir lightly – as for muffin batter.
Place in shallow 8”x8” baking pan.
Cover with reserved crumb mixture.
Bake 45 min. at 350º.
