What’s Cookin’?

Bread Pudding
4 cups stale bread
1/4 tsp. salt
3 cups warm milk
1/2 cup sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp nutmeg
Crumble stale bread and soak in milk and salt for 20 minutes.
Combine eggs, sugar, vanilla and nutmeg and beat well.
Pour mixture over the bread and lightly stir.
Tightly cover pan in foil and set in pan of hot water and bake in a 350º oven for 45 minutes.
Cover with meringue and bake at 300 º for another 15 minutes.
Serve with the following sauce:

Brown Sugar Sauce
1/2 lb. brown sugar
1/4 cup flour
1 cup boiling water
1/4 cup butter
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Mix sugar and flour together.
Add boiling water.
Cook mixture until thick.
Remove from heat and add butter and vanilla.
Serve over Bread Pudding.
