It is with great sadness that the family of Virginia Ann Dent announces her passing on Friday, July 7, 2023.  She was age 95, just 11 days short of her 96th birthday.

Virginia, born in 1927, was the fifth of nine children of the late Charles Page Hamrick and Cornelius Chestnut Hamrick. Post graduation from high school, she traveled by train to Washington D.C. and work-ed for the FBI to provide support for the World War II effort.

Virginia touched the lives of everyone through her generosity, kindness and grace.

Virginia and her late husband, “Bones” Dent, were sole proprietors of the renowned “Bones Diner” in White Sulphur Springs. The menu slogan greeted customers, “We seat 10,000 people, 10 at a time.”

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 39 years, Virgil Dale “Bones” Dent.

She is survived by four sons, Virgil Wayne Dent (former wife, Pattilynn), Gary Franklin Dent, David Douglas Dent (Jennifer) and Edwin Dale Dent; her beloved pet rat terrier “Maggie Mae;” grandchildren, Jordan Dent Slovak (Dan), Jeremy Chad, David Nicholas “Nick” and William Walker; great-grandson, Hunter Thomas Slovak; siblings, Charles Page Hamrick Jr. (Agnes), Geraldine “Jerry” Shanklin (Jim), Madeline Catherine Spurlock (Edwin “Spud”), Virle “Ace” (Phyllis), Frank “Butch” Hamrick (Dorothy “Dot”, Marilyn S Bennett (former husband, Sonny), and Bernard “Bernie” Hamrick (surviving Betty Gale).

She will be dearly missed by all her nieces and nephews and their spouses and all were welcomed to her home for many activities throughout the years. Our deepest condolences go out to all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 18, 2023, from 11 a.m. until noon at Emmanuel United Methodist Church in White Sulphur Springs.  Funeral will directly follow at noon, with a brief graveside service at Greenbrier Memorial Gardens in Lewisburg.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions should be made online to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or mail to 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN  38105 or Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 136 Schoolhouse Way, White Sulphur Springs WV 24986.

Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in White Sulphur Springs is in charge of arrangements.
