James Burton

Edward James “Jim” Burton, 66, of Marlinton, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center.
Born October 6, 1954, in Sedalia, Missouri, he was a son of the late Wally and Veta Couger Ward.

Jim was a 101st Airborne Specialist Equipment Operator. He retired from the U. S. Forest Service and was owner/ operator of Burton’s Laundromat, Burton Enterprises, and Burton’s Bargains Thrift Store.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Laretha Sue Bowien Burton; great-grandson, Dominic Trotter; and a brother, Mike Burton.

He is survived by two sons, James Burton, of Columbus, Indiana, and David Burton, of Champaign, Illinois; three step- daughters, Shelia Miller, of Clarksville, Charlene Farrington and Rebecca Smith, both of Meridian, Mississippi; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Nola Gregg, of Warsaw, Missouri, and JoAnn Mudry, of Lee Summit, Missouri.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Lantz Funeral Home in Buckeye with Pastor Timothy Scott officiating.
Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery with military rites by the Pocahontas County Veterans Honor Corps.
