It is with great sadness that the family of Helen Astin Kellison, age 83, announces her passing Tuesday, December 5, 2017.

Born in Marlinton, fondly known as “Dit,” she was a daughter of the late Henry and Cameron Astin.

Following her graduation from Marlinton High School, Helen married Neal William Kellison. The couple resided in Alexandria, Virginia, for a short time, before returning home to live the remainder of her life in Marlinton.

Helen had a great love for her home and community, volunteering and participating in various community activities including Pocahontas County Pioneer Days, serving as director of the Miss Pocahontas Pageant for many years. She loved working with her sister, Susie, at the Chic Inn Restaurant. She also enjoyed being a DJ of “Mom’s Music,” locally at the Marlinton Motor Inn and Danny’s Four Seasons for many years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Neal Kellison; infant brothers, William Henry Astin and Robert Lee Astin; and three sisters, Mayona McLaughlin, Paul-ine Goldizen and Dinah Hefner.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Jeanne Kellison Jack, and wife, Barbara; and granddaughter, McKenzie. And forever remembered by her sisters, Frances “Hank” Buzzard, of Richmond, Virginia, and Karen “Susie” Lane, of Marlinton; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral service was held December 10 at VanReenen Funeral Home in Marlinton. Interment was in Mountain View Cemetery in Marlinton.
