Hazel Underwood

Hazel Landis “Nanna” Underwood, age 71, of Summersville, went to be with the Lord Sunday, September 28, 2014, at Hubbard Hospice House West, South Charleston, following a short illness.

Born April 14, 1943, at Dunmore, she was a daughter of the late Damon and Lucille McLaughlin Landis.

Hazel was a member of the Summersville Baptist Church and a volunteer for the Bill Giacomo Memorial Golf Tournament. She retired from the Nicholas County Board of Education with 34 years of service.

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Eugene “Poppy” Underwood; children, Michelle Underwood, of Charleston, and Michael Underwood, of Summersville; two sisters, Kay Cain, and husband, Phillip, and Linda Spencer, all of Marlinton; two granddaughters, Brittnee Underwood and Mattisson Underwood; and special friends, Steve and Leah Burkholder and family and Ramona Martin.

Family will receive friends October 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. at White Funeral Home in Summersville. Funeral service is October 2 at 11 a.m. at the Summersville Baptist Church with Pastor Dana Gatewood officiating. Interment will be in the Walker Memorial Park in Summersville.

Memorials may be made to Hubbard Hospice House West of Thomas Memorial Hospital, 4605 MacCorkle Avenue SW, South Charleston, WV 25309.
