Warrior Football

The Pocahontas County High School Warriors will start to build around two veteran players in tackle Kim Wilfong and wide receiver and kicking specialist Gary Sharp.

We have several players that saw some action last year in the 6-3 campaign. Lettermen returning are Ken “Red” Wilfong, Jim Ryder, Paul White, Steve McCoy, Chris Mullens and Jeff Shaw.

Players completing the first week of practice in shorts were Seniors Kim Wi-fong, Gary Sharp, Paul White, Gary Cassell, Randy Irvine, Nathan Sharp, Keith Burgess, Kenneth Wilfong, Randy Sharp and Larry Beverage. Juniors Jim Ryder, Jeff Shaw, David Jonese, Joe McMillion, Jim Cutlip, Johnny Totten, D. C. Gum, Chris Mullens, Steve McCoy, Forrest Mullenax, Mike McLaughlin, Brad Thomas and Tom Arbogast.

Sophomores Ronnie Mullens, Rick Doyle, Albert Poindexter, Tom Velencia, Rick Barkley, Earl Galford, Fred Tibbs, Scott Madron, Ike Buzzard, Ronnie VanReenen, Jim Simmons, Lew-is Fromhart, Pat Schaffner, Ronnie Dean, Arbie Mc-Laughlin and John Dilley.

The boys expected to report are Paul Kesler, Randall Nottingham, Sam McPaters, Curt Hively, Rick Harper and Mark Beverage.

BIRTH

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Akers, a daughter, named Ethel Elizabeth.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jackson, a daughter, Pamela Dione.

DEATHS

Ralph McElwee Moore, 65, of Marlinton, a retired vice president of S. B. Wallace Wholesale Company, former deputy sheriff of Pocahontas County and a veteran of World War II. Born at Huntersville, a son of the late Elihu H. and Lola Kate Moore. Funeral service from the Marlinton United Methodist Church with burial in Mountain View Cemetery.

Mrs. Carrie Drepperd Langley, wife of John H. Langley, of Madison Heights Virginia. Born in Pocahontas County, a daughter of the late Franklin Clay and Ida Grimes Drepperd. Burial in Spring Hill Cemetery in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Fred Aaron Gumm, 78, of Monterey, Virginia, born at Dunmore, a son of the late Elihu and Gertrude Wade Gumm. A veteran of World War I. Funeral from Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell with burial in the Green Hill Cemetery.
