Comprehensive Plan

The County Court last Tuesday accepted a Comprehensive Plan for Pocahontas County, as prepared by the Pocahontas Planning Commission and the Roy F. Weston Company, of West Chester, Pennsylvania. The Town of Marlinton had done likewise the night before. These are progressive moves. Making the development plans come alive is a challenge to all!

New Book

Mrs. Thomas C. Edgar has her third book in print, “We Live with the Wheel Chair.” This is a story about the Edgar family’s experiences with “the chair.” McClain Printing Company, of Parsons, published the book, and they say it has a message for all, but especially the handicapped and members of their families…

County 4-H Camp

Lois Sharp, a member of the Marlinton Livewires 4-H Club was chosen to represent the “Spirit of the Camp” for the 1970 annual camp.

Donald McNeel, a member of the Hillsboro 4-H Club, was chosen to represent the Head H, Jane Callison, a member of the Green Valley Club, represented the Heart H, Terry Richardson, of Marlinton, represented the Hand H, and Linda Hill, of Hillsboro, was chosen to represent the Health H.

The Mingo tribe came in first in tribal points.

Four-H pins were awarded to Bobby Jo Sharp, Susie Smith, Lois Sharp, Shirley Wilfong, Annie Price and Dondi Stemple…

Born to Mr. and Mrs. George M. Ward, of Staunton, Virginia, a son, named John Mason Ware.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Richard J. Dombrosky, of Marlinton, a son, named Edward.

Born to Dr. and Mrs. Marshall Johnson, of Baltimore, Ohio, a daughter, named Marsha Lynn.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Don R. Hivley, of Dunmore, a daughter, named Nida Dawn.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Nichols, of Arbovale, a son, named Ronald Paul.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. William Durham, Jr., of Dayton, Ohio, a son named William Thomas.

DEATHS

Mrs. Mary Jane Miller, 84, of Cass, a member of the Mingo Presbyterian Church. Burial in the Mingo Cemetery.

Mrs. Nola Jane Liptrap, 52, of Marlinton; born at Boyer, a daughter of the late Dice R. Terry and Mary L. Terry. Burial in Mountain View Cemetery.

Hubert Homer McCoy, 45, of Beard, a son of the late John L. and Mattie Brown McCoy. Mechanic and owner of a garage business on Droop. Burial in the Beard Cemetery.

Lee Preston (Jake) McLaughlin, 59, of Hillsboro, a son of the late Lee Pryne and Julia B. Arbuckle McLaughlin. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Benjamin (Eddie) Rexrode, 75, of Franklin, a son of the late Benjamin and Delia Weese Rexrode. Burial in Blue Grass.
