Fifty Years Ago

Boys and Girls in Service

Sp.4. R. Lee Gardner, after spending the past eight months in Germany and a recent leave at home, is now in Vietnam. He reports hot, rain and hotter still, not like the good Cheat Mountain and Pocahontas air.

Lee is the grandson of Rodney W. Buzzard and Mrs. Catherine H. Gardner of this county. Another grandson is in the army, 2nd Lieutenant Rodney W. Gardner, currently at Ft. Devens, Massachusetts. They are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. William Gardner, of Clover Lick.

TEACHERS

Charles Eugene Rexrode and Samuel L. Taylor will teach in Green Bank Elementary School.

Charles W. Fauber will teach band at the Pocahontas High School. He comes from East Bank High School.

Suzanne Jett Miller will teach Special Education Classes at Marlinton Elementary School.

Gary C. Hollandsworth was also employed as a Special Education teacher at Marlinton.

WINS TRIP AGAIN

Douglas McMillion, 14 year old son of Carl and Gladys McMillion, of Cass, and carrier of the Charleston Gazette, has won another trip. He leaves Saturday to go to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where he will spend five days. Doug won this trip by getting new subscribers for a period of time. This is the third trip since May. He attended the Indianapolis 500 time trials May 23. He went to Camden Park in Huntington last Sunday. Doug will be a sophomore at the new Pocahontas County High School this fall.

WEDDING
Grimes – Taylor

On Friday, June 12, 1970 Linda Lee Taylor and Terry Lee Grimes were united in marriage. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. David Rittenhouse.

Mrs. Grimes is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Taylor, of Dunmore.

Mr. Grimes is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Grimes, of Dunmore.

BIRTHS

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Edsel Kelley, of Dunmore, a son, named Joseph Lawrence.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Dan Harper, of Kensington, Maryland, a son, named Matthew Wayne.

DEATHS

Anthony Simmons, 73, of Matoaka, formerly of Marlinton; burial in Mountain View Cemetery.

Mrs. Pearl Hava Bostic, 82, of Richwood, a daughter of the late William and Quilia Keith Bolt; a member of Marvin Chapel Methodist Church. Burial in Mountain View Cemetery.

Thomas Scott Dearing, 60, of Youngstown, Ohio, formerly of Marlinton, a son of the late William L. and Mary Estelle Hiner Dearing. Burial in Mountain View Cemetery.

Robert Jasper Landis, 90, of Hillsboro; a retired lumberman. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Paul Hamilton, age 72, of Gallipolis, Ohio, a son of the late Patrick and Anna Phillips Hamilton. Burial in St. Albans.

Mrs. Marjorie Alderman Siegmond, daughter of D. W. and Mattie Symes Alderman; born on Douthards Creek and died in Puerto Rico. Burial in the Wade Cemetery on Douthards Creek.
