Boys in Service

Specialist Four E-4 Douglas W. McCarty, United States Army has been awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action in the Republic of Viet Nam on 22 December 1967. He received a Purple Heart for wounds received in action November 28 and a First Oak Leaf Cluster to the Purple Heart for wounds received December 22. He is the son of R. and Mrs. Dale J. McCarty, of Frost.

Students

Libby Graham, senior at Marlinton High School and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Graham, of Buckeye, has been notified by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation that she is one of about 14,000 finalists in the 1967-68 Merit Program.

David Michael Hamed, son of Mr. and Mrs. Julian Hamed, of Green Bank, has been named to the Dean’s List of the College of Engineering at West Virginia University for the first semester.

Miss Harriet Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Z. Johnson, of Marlinton, was recently initiated into Beta Phi Chapter of Kappa Delta Sorority. Miss Johnson is a mathematics sophomore at West Virginia University.

Rosella Orndorff and Daniel Horne have been selected to represent Green Bank High School in Know Your State Government Day…

Notice was received last week that Evelyn K. Caplinger and Larry Wooddell have been selected as Outstanding Teenagers of America for 1967… They will be eligible for the Governor’s Trophy as well as one of the top ten national awards and a $1,000 scholarship…

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Dair Blake, of Annapolis, Maryland, a son, named Gary Wallace. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Bert McMillion, of Renick.

Born to Dr. and Mrs. Martin B. McMillion, of St Paul, Minnesota, a daughter, Myra Jo. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Brown and Mr. and Mrs. Bert McMillion, all of Renick.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Vance, of Green Bank, a daughter, named Sharileda Catherine.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. William Richard Burns, of Alderson, a son, named Ralph Warren.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert G. Christopher, of Manassas, a daughter, named Sheri Christine. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Watson Underwood, of Huntersville…

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kinder, of Clarksburg, a daughter, named Kecia Kay. The mother is the former Carol White.

DEATHS

Walter J. Brown, 87, of Green Bank. Burial in the Arbovale Cemetery.

Mrs. Lelia Anna Warner, 80, of Durbin. Burial in the Arbovale Cemetery.

Jaroy Bradley Daugherty, 88, of Clover Lick, a son of the late Isaac and Rosie Reed Daugherty. Burial in the Daugherty Cemetery at Clover Lick.

Homer Holt McMillion, 91, of Renick. Burial in the McMillion Methodist Church Cemetery.
