The Pocahontas County Health Department and the Pocahontas County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management reported the first positive Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 case in Pocahontas County on April 27.

On April 28, the Pocahontas County Health Department received laboratory confirmation of a second positive case in the county.

The health department will not be releasing any demographic information relating to these cases to protect the privacy of the individuals.

This second laboratory confirmed case of COVID-19 is directly related to the first confirmed case which was travel related. This individual is currently self-quarantined at home, while the first individual is quarantined and being treated at an out of county facility elsewhere in West Virginia.

The health department staff will continue to identify all potential persons who may have had close contact with these individuals, including family members, friends, and healthcare workers. The contacts will be notified of the actions to take including the need for isolation or quarantine.

The best way to prevent or limit the spread of this virus is to reduce your exposure opportunities. If you do not have to leave the house, please don’t. If you do leave home, please practice safe social distancing and wash your hands frequently to help stop the spread of this virus.
