Edn Hammonds and I were moving around in circles of high culture up in Preston County last week. The occasion was the tenth anniversary of the Mountain Choir Festival at Arthurdale. They wanted us old rusties as exhibit numbers from the unwashed tribes of the upper Greenbrier in the folk pageant they pulled along with their program of symphonic music. It was hot a plenty up in the buckwheat peniplain, but with all a pleasure trip, like the old man said when he slid off Point Mountain thirty-five miles into Elkins in five hours in a good sledding snow and then took a whole week of seven days to drag back in the mud…
Over in the nice old county seat town of Kingwood, I was peeved to take notice of parking meters strung along the principal streets. I thus publish their shame merely to put the world on notice that if our own old home town is ever so unfortunate as to get a town council which for a minute would consider such high handed robbery of would be customers and friends and even casual wayfarers, I am going to oppose it with all the printer’s ink I may then have.

The interesting item in last week’s Times was the account of the rain during Fair week. Over here, we had an excess of rain until the last of June, when it turned dry. Only an inch of rain fell during July; August 6 we had an electric storm; a week later, came a half inch of rain. On August 14, two and three fourths inches or rain. Last Sunday, there was a good rain in Kansas City, but we got no rain. Some section of the Central West have had no rain since the last of June.
Our hottest day was 107.4 degrees; the next 106, with a great many days with 100 degrees.

New Wildlife Manager
Fred Trainer, of Neola, was selected by the Conservation Commission to replace Resident Wildlife Manager Frank Crigger on the Rimel Area of the Monongahela National Forest. Mr. Crigger is leaving for Louisiana where he plans to go into business…
Trainer will continue at Rimel in the development of wildlife habitat improvement plots, game food planting, winter feeding, game census, law enforcement, fire protection and other work financed by federal Pittman-Robertson funds and state monies.

Gay – Gibson
Mr. and Mrs. Willie Gibson, of Clover Lick, are announcing the marriage of their daughter, Dotty Lou, to Albert Gay, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Gay, also of Clover Lick. The single ring ceremony was solemnized by the Rev. L. B. Sturm, pastor of the United Brethren Church of Volga… Mr. Gay served over three years with the United States Army, of which two and a half years were spent overseas with the Medical Corps.
