Sponsors Needed for Camp T-Shirts

Sponsors are needed for the Pocahontas County 4-H Camp T-shirts.  Sponsors are asked to contribute $50 and their names will be printed on the back of the camp T-shirts. Every 4-Her attending county camp will receive a shirt.  Businesses, organizations or individuals interested in being a 2014 sponsor should call the Extension Office at 304-799-4852 by April 1.


Bull Soundness Exam

The WVU Extension Service will partner with the Frankford Veterinary Hospital to offer bull soundness examinations from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at the Marlinton Stockyards. De-worming and vaccinations will be available upon request for all bulls at no additional charge.  This service is provided by Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica.  To register please call the Frankford Veterinary Hospital at 304-497-3409 by March 24.  For more information you may call Greg Hamons at the WVU Extension Office at 304-799-4852.

Frankford Veterinary Hospital also invites you to an evening with guest speaker Dr. Mills with Zoetis (formerly Pfizer) Animal Health who will present a discussion of Modified Live vs. Killed Vaccines in cattle as well as safety and vaccine protocols.  The presentation will be Tuesday, March 25, from 6:30 to 7 p.m. at the Frankford Elementary School cafeteria.  BBQ sandwiches will be served by 4-H members.  To register call Frankford Veterinary Hospital, 304-497-3409, by March 21.


4-H Recycling Contest

Attention 4-H clubs!  The Solid Waste Authority is sponsoring a contest among all Pocahontas County 4-H Clubs to see which club can collect the most newspapers – by weight – between March 1 and April 12. Please note that this contest is for newspapers only. Contact your local 4-H club leader today for all the details on how your club can participate and compete for cash prizes.


Master Gardener Trainee Sign-up

The WVU Extension Service is now taking sign-ups for the West Virginia Master Gardener Training Course which will be held this spring.  Each of the 10 classes will be approximately three hours long for a total of 30 hours of classroom training.  The course schedule will be announced following sign-up.  We require 10 participants to offer the course. Cost for the course will be $75.  Sign-up deadline will be Friday, March 21. Classes will likely begin Monday, March 24, and will continue on Mondays 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.  To sign-up or for more information please call the WVU Extension Office at 304-799-4852.

Energy Express service/employment opportunities are now available for the 2014 Marlinton Elementary Energy Express Site for one site supervisor, four mentors, and one community coordinator.
