Wilbert Smith

Wilbert C. Smith, age 77, of Marlinton, died Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at his home.

Wilbert was a retired letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, a member of the Marlinton Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Charleston, Beni Kedem Shrine, Charleston, and the Marlinton Presbyterian Church.

He was a son of the late Thomas Smith and Irene Rowe Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Sharp and Mary K. McLaughlin.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Kelley Smith, of Marlinton; daughter, Carol Smallridge, of Marlinton; sons, Wilbert C. Smith, Jr., and Trish, Timothy Smith, and Madora, and Thomas Smith, all of Marlinton, and Robert Smith, and Shawn, of Hillsboro; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends Thursday, July 3, from 6 to 9 p.m. at VanReenen Funeral Home. Funeral service is Friday, July 4, 11 a.m. at VanReenen Funeral Home with Pastor John McDonald officaiting. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Crippled Children Fund.
