Divinity Fudge
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup Karo syrup
2 egg whites
Boil the sugar, water and Karo together until thermometer reaches 265º.
Have the egg whites beaten stiff and add the hot syrup very slowly to them, beating constantly.
Add 1 teaspoon of flavoring and coloring (if desired).
Nuts may be added.
When the mixture begins to lose its shiny appearance, pour into an 8-inch square pan.
Mrs. Monroe’s Taffy
4 cups brown sugar
1 cup water
1 Tbsp. butter
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
Boil sugar, water and butter.
Add cream of tartar
Cook to crack stage.
Pour on buttered plates and let cool slightly.
Pull.
Mark pieces with a knife.
