Vivian “Louise” Buckland Whiting, age 76, of Buckhannon, passed peacefully from this life into Paradise to be with the Lord Sunday, July 23, 2017, in the comfort of her home which was decorated with countless treasured photos of family memories. Family and friends were by her side in love and support.

Born July 26, 1940, in Ansted, she was a daughter of the late Herbert Lewis and Hetty Vivian Skaggs Buckland.
Vivian moved to Pocahontas County during junior high, and was a 1960 graduate of Marlinton High School.

On June 9, 1960, she married her high school sweetheart, Richard C. Whiting, who was a 1959 graduate of Marlinton High School. After 57 years of marriage, he will miss walking into their house at the end of the day and saying, “Honey, I’m home!” knowing that she was right there, happy for his return.

Louise was a homemaker, and worked several jobs over the years. She retired from Wal-Mart in Clarksburg. She was a member of the Wayside Southern Baptist Church, where she regularly attended Sunday School, Bible Study and Worship Services.

She enjoyed needlework and had cross-stitched all of the NFL team logos, as well as countless gifts for family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Herbert Lewis Buckland, Jr. and John William Buckland.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sisters, Patricia Ann Fox, of Rittman, Ohio, and Gloria Jean Newhouse, of Shelton, Washington; four children, Daria MaDonna Hayden, and husband, Michael Anthony, of Valley Lee, Maryland, Cynthia Ann Long, and husband, John William, of Conway, South Carolina, Richard Carson Whiting, II, and wife, Madonna Marie, of Warrenton, Virginia, and Jason Eric Whiting, and wife, Michelle Anne, of Front Royal, Virginia; nine grandchildren who dearly miss their Nana, Sherri Jeanine Watkins, and husband, Donald Eugene “DJ” Watkins Jr., Donald Lee Grimes, III, and wife, Crystal Lynn, Donna Marie Grimes, Richard Carson Whiting, III, Cole Patrick Whiting, Aaron William Long, Ryan Patrick Long, Christopher Eric Whiting, Michael Keith Baldwin and Susan Plaugher; five great grandchildren, Kylie Grace Watkins, Morgan Paige Watkins, Lillian Renee Grimes, Mackenzie Grace Grimes and Michael Keith Baldwin, Jr.

Funeral service was held July 25 at Wayside Baptist Church in Buckhannon with Pastor Scott Owens and Reverend Dr. Lowell Swisher officiating.

In lieu of flowers, Louise requested that donations be made to the WV Junior Marksmanship Program, 1352 Ira Moore Road, Buckhannon, WV 26201. Checks may be made payable to WVJMP.
