Velma Turner

Velma Marie Turner, age 91, of Arbovale, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Pocahontas Center in Marlinton.

Born June 1, 1925, at Boyer, she was a daughter of the late Howard Granville and Maude Slayton Ray.

Velma was a homemaker and a member of the Arbovale United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, E. Reed Turner, in 1988; siblings, Delbert Ray, Albert Ray, Ted Ray, Frank Ray, Donald Ray, Nora Turner, Mamie Bright Jeanive Shinaberry, Virgie Wanless, Orpha Clark, Olive Cassell Barnard and Arthena Griffith; and a step-daughter, Gladys “Bunnie” Vance.

She is survived by her sons, Jerry A. Turner, and wife, Linda, of Marlinton, and David R. Turner, and wife, Sandra, of Charlottesville, Virginia; granddaughters, Patricia Turner and Elizabeth Turner; step-son-in-law, Bob Vance, of Green Bank; and step-grandchildren, Roberta Jean Vance and Susan Vance, and husband, Steven Stafford.

Funeral service was held April 23 at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale with Pastor David Rittenhouse officiating. Interment was in the Arbovale Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Arbovale United Methodist Church.
