Students show it’s all relative at county Science Fair

The Pocahontas County Schools Science Fair was held December 8 at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank. Students in third through eighth grades competed in three categories – Engineering, Life Science and Physical Science.

The winners are:

Overall: first place, Faith Johnson; second place, Rayna Smith and Jaylee Doss; and third place, Willie O’Ganian.

Engineering

Third grade: first place, Willie O’Ganian.

Fourth grade: first place, Hayley Kincaid and Daitan Halterman.

Fifth grade: first place, Max O’Ganian, Mason Solliday and Iam Johnson; and second place, Ryan Roy.

Sixth grade: first place, Sean Beverage and Hunter Curran.

Judges’ Choice: Haley Kincaid and Daitan Halterman.

Life Science

Third grade: first place, Caleb Ritter; and second place, Caleb McCarty.

Fourth grade: first place, Kynlee Wilfong; and second place, Hayden Walker.

Fifth grade: first place, Michelle Yingling; second place, Kailynn Dean; and third place, Robert Pritt.

Sixth grade: first place, Rayna Smith and Jaylee Doss; second place, Mateus Stitzinger; and third place, Max Ervine.

Seventh grade: first place, Faith Johnson; second place, Sienna Bircher; and third place, Emily Henderson.

Eighth grade: first place, Kira Bircher; second place, Jessica Rexrode; and third place, Charity Morrison.

Judges’ Choice: Joey Hajzer.

Physical Science

Third grade: first place, Kaylee Pritt; second place, Mallori McCoy; and third place, Rachel Felton and Trinity Bennett.

Fourth grade: first place, Cheyenne Dean and Andrea Alderman; second place, Hannah Burks; and third place, Ronnie Simmons and Jersey Simmons.

Fifth grade: first place, Danielle Yingling; second place, Kelsey Taylor; and third place, Emily Rimm.

Sixth grade: first place, Rachel Burns and Sarah Warder; second place, Maybelle Warner; and third place, Hazel Riley and Macaden Taylor.

Seventh grade: first place, Jennalee Meck; second place, Glen Wilt; and third place, Savannah McMillion.

Eighth grade: first place Bill Hardesy; second place, Amelia Rose and Elizabeth Hefner; and third place, Bub Murray and Ryan Peters.

Judges’ Choice: Amanda Burns.
