Sherry Akers

Sherry Dale VanReenan Akers, passed away Thursday, March 4, at Ansted Center in Ansted following a lengthy illness.

She was the daughter of late Virginia Lovell and Dale VanReenan.

Sherry loved to make others laugh and writing witty poems about her loved ones was one of her favorite pastimes.

She leaves behind her husband of 40 years, Steven Akers, of Craigsville; daughters, Kristie Smith, and husband, David, of Marlinton, Lora Bennett, and husband, Luke, of Davidson, North Carolina, Stephanie Akers Butcher, of Craigsville, Briana Akers and Daniel Elam, of Cowen; stepson Wayne Akers, of Craigsville; and four grandchildren, Rayna and Eden Smith, Jonathen Propps and Carson Elam.

Sherry came from a large family of 10 brothers and two sisters: Gail Madison (deceased), Robert Madison (deceased), Frankie Madison, of Tennessee, Patricia Madison Priddy (deceased), James Madison (deceased), Thomas Madison, of Green Bank, Richard Madison (deceased), Sharon Madison Friend, of Summersville, Roger Madison, of Virginia, John Madison, of Maryland, Shelby Madison, of Oklahoma, and Doug VanReenan, of Missouri.

A memorial and celebration of Sherry’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 5, 2021, in Marlinton at the pavilion in Stillwell Park.
