There are 317 old folks now living at the Andrew S. Rowan Memorial Home at Sweet Springs. Their average age is 77.2 years, 10 years higher than the average life span just announced. Rowan Home residents are divided into 181 men and 136 women, ranging in age from 65 to 95, with an average age of 77.1 for the men, 77.3 for the women, indicating only slightly that women live longer than men. – West Virginia News.
FIFTY YEARS A MASON
Tuesday night, February 7th, Mr. Summers McNeel was awarded a fifty-year Masonic button. The button was presented by District Deputy Grand Master H. A. Yeager, of Marlinton. This button is awarded by the Grand Lodge.
Mr. McNeel was made a Mason in 1899 at Huntersville Lodge No. 65. He demitted to Marlinton in 1905 and became one of the charter members of the Marlinton Lodge No. 127. In 1918, he demitted to Pocahontas Lodge No. 121 at Hillsboro, where he is a member at the present time.
WEATHER
For the sake of the record, these parts enjoyed five inches of snowfall last Saturday, February 23. This is the first real snow of the year at Marlinton. Then each morning since Tuesday, the cold was from ten to twenty degrees above zero.
HAM AND BACON
The second annual 4-H Ham and Bacon Show and Sale will be held in the showrooms of Davis Motor Company March 11. The hams range in weight from 11 to 17 pounds and the bacon from 5 to 8 pounds. The meat is all sugar cured and smoked and of excellent quality.

H. W. Beard will give a pig to the club member who did the most outstanding work with their project last year.

DEATHS
Russel McLaughlin, aged 67 years, died at his home near Dunmore, February 22, 1950. He was a son of the late Robert and Minta Rusmissel McLaughlin. The service was held from the Baxter church with burial in Dunmore cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hallie Moore McLaughlin and their six children.

Joseph A. Sharp, aged 88 years, of near Durbin; born at Frost, a son of the late Abraham and Martha Ellen Sharp. He was buried in the family cemetery at Frost.

Mrs. May Mann Robb, aged about 65 years, died at her home in Grafton. Born at Edray, she was a daughter of the late Clark and Phoebe Mann. Her body was laid to rest in the family plot in Grafton Cemetery.

Lonnie Gene, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Great-house, of Boyer. Burial in the Arbovale cemetery.

Eugene Friel Hultz, aged 36 years, of Hillsboro; a son of the late J. W. and Amanda Bishop Hultz. Funeral service was held from the Hillsboro Methodist Church with burial in Oak Grove cemetery.

Mrs. Rebecca Church Cashwell, aged 65 years, wife of Hiter Cashwell, died at her home in Marlinton February 24, 1950. On Sunday afternoon, her body was laid to rest in the Pleasant Green Cemetery near Seebert. The service was held from the Pleasant Green Church. The deceased was a daughter of the late G. J. and Union Church, of the Levels.
