Another big skiing weekend at Snowshoe with several thousand skiers. Good weather on Saturday, misting on Sunday.

– – –

The new Marlinton fire engine arrived in town Monday afternoon. Fred Burns, Jr., Reed Wilfong, Bob Barlow, Doug Dunbrack, Tom Dunbrack and Tony Ricottilli went to Vinton, Virginia, to pick up the $64,000 truck which has been on order for over two years. The prices have risen so dramatically that the Fire Department feels their contract provided a real bargain. Hose and other equipment will raise the cost about $5,000.

The engine has hydraulic powered extension ladders to reach 50 feet in the air in any desired direction or angle; a tube built into this extension will deliver 1,000 gallons of water a minute at the top, and it can be set to automatically spray this water back and forth. Supports drop down at the side of the truck to stabilize it and the ladder will support a thousand pounds of people.
