A capacity audience heard the fine Christmas Cantata well rendered by the young people of the Marlinton High School, under the leadership of Miss Edith May, at the Marlinton Methodist Church Sunday night.

DEATHS
John Ott Dilley, aged 79 years, died at his home near Marlinton, December 7, 1949. Born at Huntersville, he was a son of the late William and Anna Dreppard Dilley. He is survived by his wife, Miranda Jane McNeill Dilley, and six children. … Funeral service from the Union Central Methodist Church with burial in the Wilfong Cemetery.

Perry Clark Van Pelt, son of the late Robert Amos and Rachel White Van Pelt, departed this life December 3, 1949, in Pocahontas Memorial Hospital. Funeral service from the Mill Creek M. E. Church with burial in the Mill Creek cemetery.

Fred L. Sheets departed this life November 23, 1949, aged 56 years. The funeral was held from the Marlinton Methodist Church. The deceased was a son of John and Emma McAlpin Sheets. He was united in marriage to Miss Nellie Smith, of Hillsboro, and to this union was born one son, John.

Arthur W. Cromer, aged 64 years, died at his home at Durbin December 5, 1949. Funeral service was held from the Bethel Church with burial in the Bethel Cemetery. The deceased was a son of the late Harvey F. Cromer. He is survived by his wife and seven children.

Mrs. George E. Schiffler was called to Louisville, Kentucky, last week to be present at the burial of her son, Staff Sergeant George Edgar Shiffler, of the Air Service. He and six comrades were laid to rest in the National Cemetery in Louisville. Sergeant Schiffler was the first casualty from Pocahontas County in World War II. The date of his passing was December 31, 1942.

St. James Cashwell, Sr., son of the late Sarah and John Cashwell, was born on the 27th day of November 1893, in Amherst County, Virginia, and departed this life Thursday, November 24th, 1949, at his residence at 1903 Savannah Place, South East, Washington, D. C.
At an early age he joined and was baptized at the Mt. Shiloh Baptist Church. In 1915, he was united in marriage to Virginia Jones, and to this union four children were born; Sardie, Matth-ews, Gertrude and James, Jr.
After his marriage he moved to Marlinton. There he became a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, through the experience of grace and for a number of years, he served as Superintendent of the Sunday School.
His son, Matthew, died in infancy, and his wife followed in 1922. With the help of his loving mother and young sister, he played the part of both mother and father in the rearing of the other three children.
In 1940, he moved to Washington, D. C., where he became a member of the Southern Baptist Church through the experience of grace in 1942.
