Last week the trip was over to Jackson Mill, to commingle with fellows of my printing craft – the art preservation of arts – and generally romance around… During the war, naturally, such visitations had to be suspended. …

There is certainly the conclusion to be drawn from such a trip as last week – there is marked improvement to be seen in West Virginia newspaper men. In fact, ladies attend these outings. The term newspaper man is no longer accurate – it is newspaper people now. Such people are younger and smarter. You know what was truthfully said of the old school editor – he could take the biggest drinks of liquor and write the dullest of editorials.

COUNTY MAN HONORED

On August 7, at Jackson Mill, Governor Patterson, of West Virginia, and Delegate June McElwee, of Pocahontas County will be two of the 10 citizens of West Virginia to receive honorary State Farmer Degrees from the State Future Farmers of America at the convention to be held August 5 to 9.

JONES FAMILY REUNION

The family of M. Burton Jones, of Seebert, enjoyed a picnic on July 24, 1949. All of his immediate family was present, which included the following: his sisters, Mrs. B. F. Crawford and Miss Nola Jones, of Winchester, Kentucky; his brother, Stuart Jones, of Lexington, Kentucky; Floyd Jones and sons, Stuart and Donald, of Richmond, Virginia; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Jones and children, Grace Kay and Macon, of Clifton Forge, Virginia; Mr. and Mrs. Wyatt Jones, of Fayette; Mr. and Mrs. Earl W. Slavin, of Seebert; and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rose and daughter, Sally Hale, of Webster Springs.

WEDDING

Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Rogers, of Buckeye, announce the marriage of their daughter, Dorothy Lee, to Corporal Dennis Lee Jackson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Jackson, of Marlinton.
The groom, having been stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia for the past several months, has been transferred to Camp Stoneman, California, from where he expects to be sent overseas.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Mace, of Monterville, a son, Bobbie Ray.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Clark Wayne, of Auto, a son, Ernest Clark, Jr.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Stottlemire, of Buckeye, a daughter, Rebecca Ann.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Dunbrack, of Marlinton, a daughter, Mary Lou.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Gene Allen Beale, a daughter, Geraldine Kay.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Westfall, of Hillsboro, a daughter, Karen Sue.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Jones, of Hunters-ville, a son, Samuel William

DEATHS

James Wheeler Galford, aged 77 years, of Durbin, died July 24, 1949 at his home. Funeral service was held from the Bethel Church on Back Mountain with interment in the Bethel Cemetery.

Mrs. Martha Allie Pierson, aged 81 years, died July 27, 1949, at her home on Middle Run, Braxton County. One of her six sons is Squire W. R. Pierson, of Huntersville.

Lee Clark, aged about 73 years, died July 29, 1949 in a Veterans Hospital in Pt. Perry, Maryland. The deceased was a son of the late Preston Clark. Funeral was held from the Oak Grove Church with burial in the family plot in Oak Grove Cemetery.

TREASURE HUNT

On Friday, August 12, beginning at 7 o’clock at the home of Cecil Boggs, beyond the Airport. Come and search for buried treasure hidden on the lawn. Finders, keepers. Program consists of folk songs, spirituals, etc.; then the hunt. Light supper served at 35¢ a plate; ice cream and cake extra. Sponsored by the W. S. C. S. of Wilson Chapel.
