This Souvenir Booklet from the Bruffey’s Creek School, for the school year 1910, lists 81 students. This is not a typo! Eighty-one students were enrolled in this school when its doors first opened in 1910 with teachers T. A. Bruffey as Principal and A. W. Hill as Assistant Principal. The school was located next to the Emmanual Methodist Church in the area of Hills Creek and Lobelia in southern Pocahontas County. It served the Bruffey’s Creek community until it was closed in 1935. The building was torn down in 1940. (Courtesy of Sam Taylor; PHD000115)
