Pocahontas County Special Solid Waste Authority held a short special meeting September 15, with Chairman Gail Siers, members Nancy Harris and Phillip Cobb in attendance while member Darrell Roach attended by phone. Member David Henderson was absent.

A motion was made to pay the newly hired Office Secretary – Johnathan Paul – $17 per hour plus benefits. That motion passed on 3 votes, with an abstention by member Phillip Cobb.

A motion to pay the newly hired Administrative Secretary – Holly Taylor – $27.50 per hour passed on a 3 to 1 vote, with Siers, Roach and Harris voting for it, and Cobb voting against it. The decisions to hire the new employees were made at a special meeting last week, so this meeting was strictly to set their rate of pay.

Landfill Manager Chris McComb told the board that he will soon present five new employees for the landfill for the board’s consideration and approval.

The board agreed to resume the practice of notifying the press about regular meetings and special meetings, and not just posting them on the courthouse door.
