Opera House presents ‘From Tragedy to Transcendence’ as first event in new series

Steven Hancoff

“From Tragedy to Transcendence” features master guitarist Steven Hancoff in a multimedia musical performance that uses visual art and storytelling to explore the life of Johann Sebastian Bach and the legend of his Six Suites for Cello.

The visuals, guitar and storytelling all work together to create a poignant, unique performance.

Hancoff will present “From Tragedy to Transcendence” Tuesday, April 11, at 7 p.m. at the Pocahontas County Opera House.

“The show includes probably one of the largest collection of Bach-inspired artwork in the world,” Hancoff said.

One of Hancoff’s lifelong goals was to transcribe Bach’s Six Suites for Cello to the guitar, and in doing so he developed a deep interest in the history of Bach’s life.

This program is the first in a series.

The Ruth Morgan Arts and Humanities Series serves to revive century old Opera House traditions for the audience of today.
