Olen Friel

Olen B. Friel, age 80, of Jesup, Georgia, died Thursday, June 4, 2015, at his home following an extended illness.

Olen was born at Clawson, and had lived in Wayne County, Georgia, for most of his adult life. He retired with Civil Service from Ft. Stewart, Georgia, and was an auto mechanic for many years. He enjoyed many life-long friendships.

Olen was a United States Army Veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Joan Graham Friel; a son, Marlin C. Friel; two brothers; and four sisters.

He is survived by two sons, Allen B. Friel and James E. Friel, both of Jessup, Georgia; two daughters, Theresa L. Newbury, of Valdosta, Georgia, and Janet K. Friel, of Quitman, Georgia; six grandchildren; and many extended family members.

Funeral service was June 7 at Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Harris officiating. The American Legion Post 311 presented the flag. Interment was in Jesup City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kelly Corbitt, Tommy McAllister, Jonathan Mayer, Joe Johnson, Derek Landon and Ralph Dover.
Honorary pallbearers were Corky Graham, Ronnie Graham, Gale Heckwine, Carl Heckwine and Cecil Holland.
