Marshall Ward Markley, 41, of Huttonsville, passed from this life Friday, April 26, 2024, at home. He had been in his usual health and death was attributed to a sudden cardiac arrest.

Born Monday, January 24, 1983, in Roanoke, Virginia, he was a son of the late Carson Ward Markley and Elaine Roberta Bell Markley.

On December 4, 2021, in Hartwick, New York, he married the former Julie Marie Field who survives.

Marshall was a 2021 graduate of Tygarts Valley High School where he had played football and was in the band. While in high school, he was active in the Boy Scouts and had attained the rank of Eagle Scout. After high school, he attended Fairmont State College where he received his bachelor’s degree in elementary education, he then went on to obtain his master’s degree from West Virginia University. He had worked as supervising social worker with CPS for the Department of Health and Human Resources before becoming the superintendent at Cass Scenic Railroad State Park. He had just recently accepted a new position as the superintendent of Blackwater Falls State Park. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing guitar, and running, having run in several marathons. He loved his family and spending time with Abbie. He attended Otterbein United Methodist Church in Elkins and later attended Valley Independent Baptist Church in Huttonsville.

In addition to his wife, those left to cherish his memory are his only child, Abigail Elaine “Abbie” Markley, brother, Robert Markley, and wife, Elizabeth; sister, Julie Markley-Kalar, and husband, Kevin; nephews, Charles Markley and John Markley; niece, Katherine Markley; several aunts and uncles; and many friends.

Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home Friday, May 3, 2024, from 1 to 3 p.m. The funeral will begin at 3 p.m. with Rev. Mike Leedom and Pastor Frank Stanley officiating.

Interment will follow in Brick Church Cemetery in Huttonsville.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Marshall’s memory to Blackwater Falls State Park Foundation, 1584 Blackwater Lodge Road, Davis, WV 26260 or Friends of Cass, 214 Main Street, Cass, WV 24927.

Randolph Funeral Home and Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements for Marshall Ward Markley.
