After announcing in last week’s Mayor’s Corner that paving was scheduled to begin, the paving company called the Town office about 2 p.m. Wednesday to say they were behind schedule and the paving in Marlinton is now scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, September 8 and 9.
Hopefully, residents, businesses and visitors will see the difference on Eighth Street by the time you read next week’s Mayor’s Corner. This is always the issue when trying to announce updates ahead of time. Things change.
Also, Friday, September 11, marks 25 years since the events of 9-11 2001.
Again, a Ceremony of Remembrance will take place at 5 p.m. at the gazebo on Main Street.
The Town invites the community to join together as we observe the 25th Day of Remembrance, of that fateful day. The Annual Observance provides an opportunity to honor, reflect and remember together with respect and gratitude those who lost their lives and the others whose lives were forever changed. In reality, all our lives were changed that day. I wish our young people today could understand how things used to be.
In the years since September 11, 2001, our society has seen lasting changes in public safety, emergency preparedness, airport and transportation security, communication systems, and the way communities come together in times of crisis.
The day should also remind us of the importance of service, sacrifice, vigilance and unity. There is a reason our national motto has always been “United We Stand.”
Wake up America!
This is the reason that the enemies of America seek to divide. Regardless of what others think, I have to believe that we (West Virginia Mountaineers) must remember to be the ones to stand up and speak up, on behalf of our United States of America.
It’s always The Right Time to do The Right Thing.
It’s never the right time to do the wrong thing.
