So, you know, the Town had planned to have all of its Christmas Holiday lighting up before the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Knowing we would be off Thursday and Friday, our goal was to turn on all the lights before close of workday last Wednesday.

Working with a skeleton crew (because of deer-season) we were still believing that goal could be completed. However, we did not anticipate the Governor’s announcement coming at 4 p.m. Tuesday. That’s when we re- ceived the unexpected news that employees would have an extra half-day off, beginning at noon on Wednesday. Obviously, the trash had to be picked up before quitting and the remaining decorations could wait.

By the way, we received calls over the weekend with comments about the Christmas lighting being beautiful – and we were not finished yet.

I am thankful that we had the ability to have two trash-trucks running last Wednesday. This contributed to not getting all decorations up but made all the difference in completing garbage pickups. It kept us from being buried under trash when returning to work Monday morning after an extra-long Thanksgiving weekend.

Thanks again to the Town crew for playing double-duty.

Finally, with the weather changing, it is necessary to bring up another subject. No one should have to remind pet owners to take care of their pets. Unfortunately, this is another sad duty of any Mayor. Under the Town’s Animal Ordinance, the provisions of  90.004 CRUELTY TO ANIMALS, (4) States in part;  To fail, refuse or neglect to provide any animal in his or her charge or custody as owner or otherwise with proper food, drink, shade, care or shelter; provided that for purposes of this division (A)(4) any animal kept outside shall be provided with structurally sound weatherproof enclosure, large enough to accommodate the animal; and shall be punished by a reasonable fine, not exceeding an amount set by Council from time to time.
