Lillian M. Sweeney, 85, of Oil City, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at UPMC Hamot in Erie.

Born February 8, 1940, in Marlinton, she was a daughter of the late Orrie and Ellen Burgess Sharp.

A graduate of Green Bank High School, her first job was as a typist for the FBI. She went on to work for 15 years at Foster-Forbes in Rouseville, and, after retiring, as a housekeeper in Oil City.

She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the VFW Auxilliary. Lilly loved her boys, caring for her family, and was a gifted painter.

She was a member of Heckathorn United Methodist Church.

On April 4, 1958, she married Robert E. Sweeney, Sr., who preceded her in death October 2, 2020. They shared 62 years together.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lester Lee Sharp; and two sisters, Mary Jane Sharrar and Cathlene Burgess.

She is survived by four sons, Lester Sweeney and Brent Sweeney, both of Oil City, Pennsylvania, Robert E. Sweeney, Jr., and wife, Esther, of Saegertown, Pennsylvania, and Christopher Sweeney, and wife, Patty, of Wichita, Kansas; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her life-long friend, Carol Shanahan, of Green Bank; foster sister, Dawnita Lutz; and a special niece, Diane Sloan, and husband, Paul.

A celebration of Lillian’s life will be announced at a later date.

Interment will be in Heckathorn Cemetery.
