I promised to highlight the new books that have come in at the Durbin Community Library. The order has arrived, and librarian Nancy Egan is working on processing the books for circulation. She has new books for all ages – from some really cute picture books to some of the new bestsellers for adult readers.
Kids who love dragons will be thrilled to see the series How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell. Join Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III as he tries to pass an initiation test of his Viking clan by capturing and training a dragon. Books in the series include How to Speak Dragonese, How to Twist a Dragon’s Tale, How to Steal a Dragon’s Sword, and more.
Popular inspirational author Karen Kingsbury has a new book, Chasing Sunsets. This is the second book in her Angels Walking series, stories about angels who are assigned to walk on earth. In Chasing Sunsets, two angels, Jag and Aspyn, have been assigned to watch over Marcus, a pitcher for the LA Dodgers. If they can spark a romance between Marcus and Mary Catherine, something wonderful will result. Now, they just have to convince Marcus and Mary Catherine…
Clive Cussler has a new adventure in his popular NUMA Files series called The Pharaoh’s Secret. This time, Kurt and Joe must stop a ruthless powerbroker who wants to build a new Egyptian empire to mirror those of the Pharaohs. Sounds like a good plan on the surface, right? But the rest of the world would be paying a huge price, and so he must be stopped.
Playing with Fire by Tess Gerritsen introduces us to violinist Julia Ansdell, who finds a haunting piece of sheet music called the “Incendio” waltz in a dusty old antiques shop in Rome. Such an unusual composition immediately captures Julia’s attention, and she is determined to master the piece and perform it back home in Boston. But from the first moment her young daughter hears this music, she is violently transformed and Julia suddenly finds her entire world under threat. She must discover the composer of the “Incendio” waltz and the meaning behind this music – before it’s too late.
Look for a new book by Mary Higgins Clark, All Dressed in White, featuring television producer Laurie Moran as she investigates the mystery of a missing bride. Faye Kellerman has released a new installment in her Decker and Lazarus series. The Theory of Death finds Peter Decker, former LAPD police lieutenant, now living in upstate New York working in the Greenbury Police Department, a far cry from the craziness of L.A. The discovery of a dead man in the woods changes the peace of the town. And if you’ve been wanting to read The Martian by Andy Weir before you see the movie, now is your chance! Six days ago, Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he’s sure he’ll be the first person to die there. His crew, thinking he was killed in the dust storm, evacuated the planet and headed back to Earth without him. Now he’s stranded with no way to signal for help. The odds are stacked so high against him – yet he refuses to give up. Is a good outcome even possible? You’ll have to read this one to find out!
Be sure and stop in to see these and more new titles at the Durbin Community Library.
