Dear Editor;

Congratulations to everyone participating in the Farm-to-Table dinner event August 2 at the Last Run Restaurant in Cass.
During the buffet appetizer hour, we met the farmers who produced the food. Meeting the farmers was a wonderful way to get to talk one to one. Great people.

The down-on-the-farm style menu was delicious.

The Last Run chefs and staff did a superb job preparing and serving the meal. Every menu item – there were 22 different dishes – was prepared just right! Country fried steak and roast pork were the main entrées.

Of course, there were many sides and desserts.

Oh, the fried squash was perfect.

The egg custard tasted like Grandma’s!

This event was a favorite of our summer in Pocahontas County.

Sure hope you do it again soon.

Dear Editor;

There is a little known Amendment to the West Virginia Constitution that will be on the ballot in the general election on November 6.

A yes vote on Amendment 1 will prevent your tax dollars from being used for abortions.

Since the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision by the US Supreme Court, West Virginia taxpayers have paid for nearly 35,000 abortions at a cost of almost $10 million dollars.

In West Virginia, currently elective abortions can be performed for the entire nine months of pregnancy for any reason or no reason at all.

Opponents of this amendment will misrepresent this as an attack on women’s rights to healthcare. Please remember that an abortion has nothing to do with a woman’s healthcare. In fact, if anything, an abortion many times creates mental and physical health problems for the woman who has an abortion. Also remember that an abortion terminates the rights of the unborn child.

I would trust that all God fearing West Virginia voters will cast a YES vote for Amendment 1 on the November 6 ballot.
I believe that in this nation, and especially in West Virginia, we are finally arriving at a true understanding of what takes place when an abortion is performed.

The pro-choice advocates like to use terms such as fetus, women’s health and contraceptive when speaking to the issue of abortion. Do not be fooled by mere terms.

The mother is not carrying a fetus, she has conceived a baby in her womb. Before she knows she is pregnant, at four weeks the baby, not a fetus, has a heartbeat and brainwaves.

To end the life of this baby is neither a contraceptive nor a health issue for the mother.

We must acknowledge what an abortion truly is and vote YES on Amendment 1.
