Lady Warriors win two on the road

The Pocahontas County High School Lady Warriors soccer team had two games last week and won both on the road.

Game 14 at Petersburg, October 1

At half-time the Lady Warriors were ahead 1-0. They scored five more goals in the second half and Petersburg scored two for a final score of 6-2. 

Scorers were senior Jose Faris and juniors Elizabeth Hefner and Kira Bircher. Assists on these goals were from juniors Alexa Taylor and K. Bircher, sophomore Savannah McMillion and freshman Mackenna McKenney.

Additional shots on goal were from forwards and midfielders senior Justice Calhoun, juniors Sage McLaughlin and A. Taylor, sophomore McMillion, and freshmen Rayna Smith and McKenney.

Defenders, led by juniors Amelia Rose and Emily Casto and freshmen Macaden Taylor and Hazel Riley, cleared the ball out of the backfield 30 times.

Goalkeeper sophomore Sienna Bircher saved three goals of Petersburg’s five shots on goal, and allowed two. 

Game 15 at Beckley vs. Shady Spring October 4 

At half-time the Lady Warriors were ahead 1-0. They scored two more goals in the second half for a final score of 3-0. 
Scorers were senior Marlee McLaughlin and junior Kira Bircher. Assisting was junior Sage McLaughlin.

Additional shots on goal were from forwards and midfielders senior Josey Faris, juniors Alexa Taylor, Laila Calhoun, Elizabeth Hefner, S. McLaughlin, Elizabeth Hefner and Cloey Sharp, and sophomore Savannah McMillion.

Defenders and midfielders, led by juniors Emily Casto, Amelia Rose, E. Hefner, and S. McLaughlin and freshmen Macaden Taylor and Hazel Riley, cleared the ball out of the backfield 50 times.

Goalkeeper sophomore Sienna Bircher saved nine goals of Shady Spring’s nine shots on goal, and allowed 0. S. Bircher also came out of the goal for tackles to prevent additional shots on goal. This was the team’s fifth shut-out of the season.

The Lady Warriors’ record is now 9 wins, 0 ties, and 4 losses. Their last game of the regular season will be at PCHS Saturday, October 13, 11 a.m. vs. Nicholas County.  Sectionals will be the week of October 15.
