The Pocahontas County High School Lady Warriors soccer team had two games last week and won both on the road.\r\n\r\nGame 14 at Petersburg, October 1\r\n\r\nAt half-time the Lady Warriors were ahead 1-0. They scored five more goals in the second half and Petersburg scored two for a final score of 6-2.\u00a0\r\n\r\nScorers were senior Jose Faris and juniors Elizabeth Hefner and Kira Bircher. Assists on these goals were from juniors Alexa Taylor and K. Bircher, sophomore Savannah McMillion and freshman Mackenna McKenney.\r\n\r\nAdditional shots on goal were from forwards and midfielders senior Justice Calhoun, juniors Sage McLaughlin and A. Taylor, sophomore McMillion, and freshmen Rayna Smith and McKenney.\r\n\r\nDefenders, led by juniors Amelia Rose and Emily Casto and freshmen Macaden Taylor and Hazel Riley,\u00a0cleared the ball out of the backfield 30 times.\r\n\r\nGoalkeeper sophomore Sienna Bircher saved three goals of Petersburg\u2019s five shots on goal, and allowed two.\u00a0\r\n\r\nGame 15 at Beckley vs. Shady Spring October 4\u00a0\r\n\r\nAt half-time the Lady Warriors were ahead 1-0. They scored two more goals in the second half for a final score of 3-0.\u00a0\r\nScorers were senior Marlee McLaughlin and junior Kira Bircher.\u00a0Assisting was junior Sage McLaughlin.\r\n\r\nAdditional shots on goal were from forwards and midfielders senior Josey Faris, juniors Alexa Taylor, Laila Calhoun, Elizabeth Hefner, S. McLaughlin, Elizabeth Hefner and Cloey Sharp, and sophomore Savannah McMillion.\r\n\r\nDefenders and midfielders, led by juniors Emily Casto, Amelia Rose, E. Hefner, and S. McLaughlin and freshmen Macaden Taylor and Hazel Riley, cleared the ball out of the backfield 50 times.\r\n\r\nGoalkeeper sophomore Sienna Bircher saved nine goals of Shady Spring\u2019s nine shots on goal, and allowed 0. S. Bircher also came out of the goal\u00a0for tackles to prevent\u00a0additional shots on goal. This was the team\u2019s fifth shut-out of the season.\r\n\r\nThe Lady Warriors\u2019\u00a0record is now 9 wins, 0 ties, and 4 losses. Their last game of the regular season will be at PCHS Saturday,\u00a0October 13, 11 a.m. vs. Nicholas County.\u00a0 Sectionals will be the week of October 15.
