Lady Warriors 3-1-1 for the week

The Pocahontas County High School Lady Warriors Soccer team won three games, tied one, and lost one in the past two weeks. Summaries of these games are provided below.

August 28: lost to Greenbrier East at PCHS

The Lady Warriors and Lady Spartans each scored one goal in the first half for a 1-1 tie at half-time. The Lady Spartans scored two more goals in the second half while the Lady Warriors scored 0 for a final score of 3-1 Greenbrier East. 

Lady Warrior scorer was Riley Pollack on penalty kick.

Additional shots on goal were from forwards and midfielders Mallori McCoy and Brianna Cochran.

Defenders and midfielders Ramona Hardy, Andrea Alderman, Mackenzie Taylor, Ellena Bauserman, Kynlee Wilfong, Mileya Bircher, Allyson Taylor and Baylee Nelson stole and/or cleared the ball out of the defensive field 37 times.

Goalkeeper Shayla Bennett saved 18 goals and allowed three.

August 31: a win at Petersburg

The Lady Warriors scored one goal in the first half and the Lady Vikings scored 0 for a halftime score of 1-0 Pocahontas. Both teams scored one goal in the second half for a final score of 2-1 Pocahontas.

Lady Warrior scorers were forwards Brianna Cochran and Eden Smith. 

Additional shots on goal were from forwards and midfielders Mileya Bircher, Mallori McCoy, Ramona Hardy and Riley Pollack.

Defenders and midfielders Riley Cassell, Mackenzie Taylor, Andrea Alderman, and Hardy stole and/or cleared the ball out of the defensive field 24 times.

Goalkeeper Shayla Bennett saved three goals and allowed one.

September 5: a win against Nicholas County at PCHS

The Lady Warriors scored five goals in the first half and the Lady Grizzlies scored 0 for a halftime score of 5-0 Pocahontas. Neither team scored in the second half for a final score of 5-0 Pocahontas.

Lady Warrior scorers were forwards Riley Pollack, Eden Smith and Erin Rider. 

Assists on these goals were from forwards and midfielders Smith, Brianna Cochran, Ramona Hardy and Miranda Gum and defender Andrea Alderman.

Additional shots on goal were from forwards and midfielders Kynlee Wilfong, Mileya Bircher, Mallori McCoy and Allyson Taylor.

Defenders and midfielders Elizabeth Friel, Mackenzie Taylor, Alderman, Alexis Arbogast and Ellena Bauserman stole and/or cleared the ball out of the defensive field 22 times.
Goalkeeper Shayla Bennett saved four goals and allowed 0.

September 7: tied with James Monroe at PCHS

The Lady Warriors scored two goals in the first half and the Lady Mavericks also scored two for a halftime score of 2-2. Neither team scored in the second half for a final score of 2-2. The game was suspended approximately four minutes into the second half due to lightening.

Lady Warrior scorers were midfielders Riley Pollack and Mallori McCoy. 

Assists on these goals were from forward Brianna Cochran.

Additional shots on goal were from forwards and midfielders Miranda Gum, Eden Smith, Cochran, Erin Rider and Allyson Taylor and defender Mackenzie Taylor.

Defenders and midfielders Ellena Bauserman, Andrea Alderman, M. Taylor and Elizabeth Friel stole and/or cleared the ball out of the defensive field 20 times.

Goalkeeper Shayla Bennett saved four goals and allowed two.

September 9: a win against Lincoln County at the Beckley Soccer Complex

The Lady Warriors scored three goals in the first half and the Lady Panthers scored 0 for a halftime score of 3-0 Pocahontas. The Lady Panthers scored one goal in the second half and the Lady Warriors scored 0 for a final score of 3-1 Pocahontas.

Lady Warrior scorers were forwards and midfielders Brianna Cochran, Allyson Taylor and Miranda Gum. 

Assists on these goals were from forwards and midfielders Kynlee Wilfong, Mileya Bircher and Alexis Arbogast.

Additional shots on goal were from forwards and midfielders Ramona Hardy, Eden Smith, Bircher, Mallori McCoy, Riley Pollack and Erin Rider and defenders Mackenzie Taylor and Andrea Alderman.

Defenders and midfielders Riley Cassell, Ellena Bauserman, Alderman, Hardy, Baylee Nelson and Leeann Greene stole and/or cleared the ball out of the defensive field 29 times.
Goalkeeper Shayla Bennett saved six goals and allowed one.

The team’s record is 4 wins, 2 ties, 3 losses.
