I would like to address and clear up the status of the Bank Building here in Hillsboro.
We did have a successful bidder to demolish the building, however after the contract was signed it had to be approved by HUD in Charleston. HUD said that they required two bids in order to get the money for the grant. In some cases, they would go with one, but said they wanted two.
Bids will go out this week. We will meet October 20 at the Region 4 office in Summersville to open the bids. We are being told that if we get only one bid, they will accept that bid.
Also, some good news, our Sewer Lift Station is complete except for the generator. Generator has been on back order since July 2022. Expected delivery is December 2023.
We also have a grant to rebuild and update our Lagoon system. This project is moving along. We have no start date at this time.
We received a grant to start design work on new sidewalks. This will be to finish both sides of Rt. 219, Lobelia, Main Street and Denmar Road. Robinson Engineering will do the engineering work on this project. We will meet October 19 to develop a scope for this work.
I know the delay on the Bank Building is frustrating to all the people who can’t wait for the building to come down. It’s really frustrating to me, too.
I would like to thank all the people in Hillsboro who support me in all the things I try to do, and I encourage everyone to contribute to the pavilion at Hillsboro School.
