Harrison Varner

Harrison Eugene “Gene” Varner, age 60, of Durbin, passed away Monday, May 29, 2017, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

Born November 12, 1956, at Elkins, he was a son of the late Lawrence R. and Lennie Ferguson Varner.

Gene was a track maintenance man for Cass Scenic Railroad State Park. He attended Bethel United Methodist Church. He was a member of the VFW #7213 and American Legion 507 both in Norwood, Pennsylvania.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Franklin Varner, Lawrence Varner, Jr., Nathan Varner and Jimmy Varner.

He is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Maria Varner, of Norwood, Pennsylvania; a son, Harrison Eugene Varner, Jr., of Orlando, Florida; nine sisters, Rosie Arbaugh, of Whitmer, Mary Shifflett and Ida Kline, both of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Sue Murry, of Broadway, Virginia, Lucille Higgens, of Wellsburg, Ruth Hedrick, of Pineville, Alberta Higgens, of Elkins, Rebecca Farley, of Conover, North Carolina, and Donna Varner, of Marion, Virginia; three brothers, Johnny Varner and Bobby Varner, both of Durbin, and Lindon Varner, of McHenry, Mississippi; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, June 3, 2 p.m. at the Bethel United Methodist Church with Pastor David Rittenhouse and Gary Phillips officiating. Interment will be in the Bethel Church Cemetery with Military Rites by the Pocahontas County Veterans Honor Corps. Family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
