Garrett Clark

Garrett John Clark, age 24, of Marlinton, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2017, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown as a result of a pulmonary embolism.

Born April 21, 1993, in Elkins, he was a son of Philippa Shafer, of Marlinton, and Bruce Clark, of Sandstone.

Garrett was a 2012 graduate of Pocahontas County High School. Throughout his high school career, he was an outstanding athlete. He served in the United States Army for one year. He was a ski instructor at Snowshoe Mountain; and loved to snowboard and teach kids to ski.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Melanie Shafer; and great-grandmother, Fayree Malcomb.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Bradley Thomas Armstrong; three aunts; three uncles; special cousin, Pamela Shafer, and her children; 10 cousins; his grandfather, Philip Shafer; best friend, Michael Hensler; and girlfriend, Clara Shay.

Memorial service and gathering will be held Saturday, November 4, from 4 to 6 p.m. at VanReenen Funeral Home in Marlinton.
