Thursday, July 29, 1976

There was spectacular lightening a few days last week, with very heavy rains. A tremendous old oak – the corner tree between Mrs. T. D. Moore and Mrs. Percy Moses on the Onoto-Woodrow road was struck and the remaining stump of it was still burning Monday. This tree was one of those considered in the search for the State’s biggest tree in the 1963 Centennial

CLASS OF 1926 REUNION

The 1926 graduating class of Edray District High School held its 50th anniversary reunion July 9, 1976, at The Pines.

A delicious meal was served to the following: Dr. Boyd Travis, Florence Price McNeel, Rebecca Surber, Elizabeth Dunlap, John M. Dunlap, Jr., Glenna Cole, Woodrow Seltz, Lewis and Irma Yeager, Bob and Glenna Auldridge, Eleanor King Wade, Pearl Auldridge Sullivan, Dorothy Y. Adlung, Gertrude Yeager Smith, Dr. Roland P. Sharp, Opal Price Sharp, Eva B. McCarty, Glenna Hayes, Mildred Segraves, John Bear, Edna May Bear, Mrs. Fannie Overholt and Marguerite Gay.

SOFTBALL

The Athletics drew within first place by defeating Interstate and Hillsboro. Interstate reduced their magic number to three with a victory over Hillsboro. The Round-ups secured their hold on third with victories over the Rangers and 76’ers.

Roger Sharp’s two run, ninth inning homer lifted the Round-ups over a much improved 76’er ball club. The Round-ups also snapped the Ranger’s winning streak at six, with an 8-6 victory.

Interstate combined pitching and defense to hold Hillsboro to two runs. Bob Dunz, hurried the league’s second shutout as the Athletics defeated Hillsboro 7-6. Timely hitting in the late innings proved to be the key in the Athletics victory over Interstate.
