BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
Marlinton Grade School won the Pocahontas County Tournament at P.C.H.S. Green Bank was second followed by Hillsboro and Durbin.
The leading scorers for the tournament were: Harvey Findley, 19, and Rodney Bennett, 16, for Durbin. Phillip Hill, 32, and Bill Walton, 11, for Hillsboro. Richard Oref, 19, Scotty Kelley, 16, Julian Rittenhouse, 15, and Conrad Smith, 10, for Green Bank. Jeff Barb, 22, Mike Rider, 17, Ronnie Sharp 15, Mark Dilley 14, Ricky Ervine, 11, and Keith Pondexter, 8, for Marlinton. The above scoring represents the total for two games.
The all-tournament team was made up of Jeff Barb (captain), Keith Pondexter, Mark Dilley, Ronnie Sharp, Marlinton; Conrad Smith, Richard Oref, Green Bank; Glenn Arbogast, Durbin; Phillip Hill, Hillsboro.
The best cheerleading squad trophy went to Hillsboro. The squad is composed of Melanie Rose, Kimberly Alderman, Connie Madison, Sandy McMillion, Teresa McCoy, Nancy Hef-ner, Cynthia Clutter and Angie Pyles.
One girl was chosen from each squad as the best cheerleader from their respective schools. Those awards went to Debbie Moyers, Durbin; Connie Madison, Hillsboro; Teresa Nottingham, Green Bank; and Karen Buchanan, Marlinton.
