PCHS Wins Home Meet
Coach Arch Wooddell
PCHS compiled a commanding lead in the field event and held on for a comparatively easy victory in a quadrangular meet Wednesday afternoon.
Pocahontas tallied 114 points compared to second place Braxton County’s 83, Cowen was next with 34 and Webster Springs followed with 27.
Jim Rose was the leading individual point winner in placing first in the shot put and the discus, as well as running a leg on the winning 440 and 880 relay teams. The other members of the 440 and 880 relays were Mark Beverage, Danny Cain and Matt Withers.
Other first place winners were Gary A. Cassell in the 220 years dash; Mark Beverage, 110-yard dash; Dave Moore, 880-yard run, John Wilfong, pole vault, Matt Withers, long jump, and the mile relay team composed of Richard Akers, Tom Moore, Dave Moore and Gary A. Cassell.

DEATHS
Amos McCarty, 94, of Huntersville; a son of the late Peter and Arminta Hill McCarty. He was born, lived and died on the McCarty home place. Funeral service held from VanReenen Funeral Home with burial in Mountain View Cemetery.

Dale T. Turner, 59, of St. Albans; born at Marvin Chapel, a son of James M. and Mary Gabbert Turner. Funeral service was held from Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church with burial in the Ruckman Cemetery.
