HOSPITAL NEWS

By S. E. Drumm

In pursuing our purpose to improve the image of our hospital, perhaps an article on hospital personnel and finances would be in order at this time.

At this writing, we have 66 employees, and this figure includes six or seven part-time employees.

This figure includes 7 RNs, 5 LPNs, 22 aides, 3orderlies, 1 dietitian, 2 cooks, 4 helpers, 3 maintenance workers, housekeeper over the maintenance, 4 office workers, office supervisor, 2 X-ray technicians, 2 laboratory technicians, 3 medical records workers and others.

Our monthly payroll is approximately $22,000 per month right now. As a local employer, we are second in size to the Pocahontas County Education System.

Monthly cost for operating this hospital is $8,000 to $11,000…

A financial statement for the year ending June 30, 1971, will appear in this newspaper probably within two weeks from this date. At the present time our hospital is in good financial condition, not excellent and not as good as we hoped, but good condition. We are not about to close the door, which will make a few people unhappy. This information should terminate another rumor…

We now have a full-time Radiologist… We also have a full-time Anesthetist. Other hospitals are now calling for the use of our professional medical personnel. Just a few short months ago, we were doing this, too.

Take it or leave it, but the fact is, with the exception of our very poor physical plant, this small hospital is as fine as any small hospital in this State and a lot better than most.

Graduates

Saundra Lou Watson graduated from the Clifton Forge hospital School of Radiologic Technology July 1, 1971…

Miss Watson was honored at the graduation exercises by her fellow students by being selected to receive the Journal Club Award. This award, an engraved silver bowl, is presented to the student who exhibits a good personality, excellent leadership and the ability to work well with her co-workers.

Saundra is the daughter of Mr. Emma Watson Hodge, of Marlinton, and Walter Watson, of Fairmont.
