The Marlinton Tannery is cutting production from 800 to 600 hides per day, beginning Monday of this week. This will probably result in the loss of 25 to 30 jobs by the end of the 44-day tanning process period.

Frost reported a few places Monday morning but most areas had heavy fog.

Hillsboro Homecoming

Miss Barbara Sue Pritt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kessler Pritt, of Lobelia, will reign as the Homecoming Queen for Hillsboro High School this year…

Her attendants will be Lynn Beard, Junior, daughter, of Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Beard, of Hillsboro; Lori Rose, Sophomore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James L. Rose, of Hillsboro; Evelyn Pritt, freshman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hill Pritt.

The Hillsboro Band will perform at half-time, and Barbara will be crowned by Mrs. Ruth Taylor, president of the Hillsboro Alumni Association. Little Miss Linda Wylie will be crown bearer…

Marlinton Homecoming

The last official Homecoming football game for Marlinton High School is scheduled for Friday, October 3, 1969, when the Copperheads host Gilmore County High School. This year’s Homecoming is hoped to be the biggest and best ever…

Miss Mary Jane Buzzard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Buzzard, of Huntersville, has been selected by the student body to reign over the festivities. She will be escorted by Barry Buzzard. Attendants and escorts to the Homecoming Queen are: Seniors, Regina Waugh and Edwin White; Juniors, Connie Dilley and Mike Hefner; Sophomores, Rose Mary Underwood and Dennis Dever; Freshman, Pam Davis and Ricky Moore; Eighth Grade, Gail Burgess and David Eddy; Seventh Grade, Theresa Faulknier and Michael Scott. Addie Dunbrack, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Dunbrack will be crown bearer.

BIRTHS

Born to SP-4 and Mrs. Robert S. Vandevender, of Bartow, a daughter, Lisa Ann.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Fred C. Burns, Jr., of Marlinton, a son, named Douglas Lee.

DEATHS

Shirley Virginia Lane, 33, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; a daughter of Mrs. Laura Lane, of Mill Point. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Garcia Hefner Gilbert, 59, died in the Denmar Hospital at Beard. A daughter of the late Ross and Mary Rider Hefner. Burial at May’s Chapel on Anthonys Creek.

Arlie Smmons, 72, of Arbovale; burial in the Arbovale Cemetery.
