It is with broken hearts that his family announces the passing of Ernest Berl Coll-ins, 75, of White Sulphur Springs, on August 22, 2026, at Peyton Hospice House in Fairlea.
Berl was a proud combat wounded Vietnam veteran, with a Purple Heart and Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a devoted husband and father. A man who deeply loved his family. He lived a life full of strength and love and always had a way of making everyone feel laughter and joy.
Berl was preceded in death by his beloved father, Benjamin Harold Collins; mother, Gracie Flo Shiflett Collins; and brother, George Franklin Collins, and wife, Janet Bostic Collins,
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Fitzgibbon Collins, of White Sulphur Springs; daughters, Heather (Chad) Williams, of White Sulphur Springs, and Angela (Tracy) Hughes, of Ronceverte; cherished grandchildren, Jana, Owen and Cora Hughes, and Addison Williams; sisters, Dorothy (Robert) Garland, of Frederick, Maryland, Erma (Richard) Hedrick, of Salem, Virginia; brothers, David (Diana) Collins, of Hampstead, Maryland, and Jack Shiflett, of Elkins; and many special nieces and nephews.
Above all else, he was the best Dad and Pops/Papa a family could ever ask for. His love, guidance and the memories he gave us will remain in our hearts forever. While we are heartbroken to say, “see ya later,” we are so grateful for the time we had with him and the love he so freely gave.
Berl leaves behind a family who loved him beyond words and will miss him more than he could ever know. His memory will forever live on in their hearts.
Dad/Berl, we love you; we will miss you, and we will carry you with us always. Your love and legacy will live on in all of us.
In keeping with Berl’s wishes the body will be cremated and a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
