Emma Lou Pyles Epling, age 75, of Scott Depot, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at Hubbard Hospice House West in South Charleston.

Born April 7, 1941, at Seebert, she was a daughter of the late Hubert and Jewell Turner Pyles.

Emma was a 1959 graduate of Hillsboro High School. She worked at C&P Telephone Company and Putman General Hospital. She was well-known for her delicious southern cooking and her skill at quilting and other crafts.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Samuel Vincent Epling.

She is survived by her daughters, Roxanna Hammett, and husband, John, of Rockaway, New Jersey, and Tammy Orr, and husband, Chris, of Wharton, New Jersey; grandchildren, Melissa, Jason, Jessie, Sarah and Zachary; sisters, Thelma Shamblin, Mary McClure and Nellie Deusenberry, and husband, Gary, all of Dunbar; a nephew, Joe Johnson, and wife, Jane, of Pomeroy, Ohio; and a niece, Patricia Petry, and husband, Greg, of St. Albans.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Hubbard Hospice House for their kindness and the loving care they gave to Emma.

Graveside service was January 9 at Ruckman Cemetery, at Mill Point, with Pastor Jim Dennis officiating.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Care, 1606 Kanawha Blvd., West, Charleston, WV 25387.
