Dorothy Lee “Dot” Sampson Ervine, age 88, of Green Bank, slipped peacefully into eternity Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at Pocahontas Center. She had been in declining health.

Born December 26, 1928, at Huntersville, she was a daughter of the late Flosten and Jessie Fowler Sampson.

Dot retired from the United States Postal Service in 1989, following 30 years as a dedicated clerk. She was a strong-willed, kind-hearted generous and witty, spirited lady. She delighted in keeping in touch with family and friends, through letter writing and sending encouraging cards.

She married Guy Newton Ervine September 26, 1945. He preceded her in death April 12, 2002.

Dot attended the Frank Church of the Nazarene. She and Guy immensely enjoyed attending gospel sings and taking Sunday scenic drives.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladie Gum and Marybelle Meadows.

She is survived by a daughter, Diane E. Hoover, and husband, Dewey, of Green Bank; a special grandson, Dan Hoover, of Green Bank; a sister, Linda Key, of Summersville; a brother, Thurman Sampson, and wife, Barbara, of Baltimore, Maryland; many nieces and nephews; a special friend, Janie Wilfong, of Marlinton; and a special toddler friend, Sierra Cassell, of Arbovale.

Graveside service was held August 18 at Arbovale Cemetery with Pastor Gary Reynolds officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Frank Church of the Nazarene, 5509 Staunton Parkersburg Turnpike, Bartow, WV 24920-8026; or to a charity of your choice.
