Dewey Hunter “Buck” Ervine, Jr., age 72, of Green Bank, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2019, at his home.

Born September 15, 1947, he was the eldest child of the late Dewey H. Ervine, Sr. and Anna Plyler Ervine.

Buck graduated from Green Bank High School in 1966 after which he attended Nashville Auto College for one year.

He entered the United States Army in January 1968. His military service included one year in Vietnam (25th Infantry Division, “Manchus”) at Tay Ninh, Dau Tieng and Cu Chi. During Buck’s service, he was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and two Army Commendation Medals. He was discharged from the Army in January 1970.

Buck returned to Green Bank and began working at Sheets Garage, Inc. where he was employed for many years. He later served as a rural mail carrier with a route that included Cass, Clover Lick, Slaty Fork and Stony Bottom.

Buck married Charlotte Shears on December 31, 1976. The couple had three children, Joni Marie, Clinton Daniel and Hazel Ann.

In addition to his wife and children, he is survived four siblings, Richard (Mona Raye), Clarence (Patricia), Robert (Debbie), and Connie Jordan; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 24, 2 p.m. at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale. Burial with full Military Honors will follow in Arbovale Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bartow-Frank-Durbin Fire and Rescue or to the Pocahontas County Veterans Honor Corps.
