COVID-19 vaccine arrives at PMH

Front line healthcare workers at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital began receiving the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday evening. Amidst much excitement, five employees stepped up to be the first to receive it. They included Emergency Room providers Dr. Kelby Faulkiner and Dr. John Johnson. PMH officials traveled to the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg Tuesday afternoon to pick up their supply of the vaccine. PMH plans to vaccinate approximately 100 employees over the next three weeks. A second dose will be administered 21 days after the first dose. Above, Chance Walther, RN, administers the vaccine to Dr. Kelby Faulkiner. Visit the PMH Facebook page to see a video of Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jeffry Pilney explaining how this mRNA vaccine works and why it is different than other vaccines. Photo courtesy of PMH
