Collier Harvey

The Rev. Collier Smith Harvey, Jr., age 86, of Harrisonburg, Virginia, died Tuesday, September 29, 2015.

Born March 20, 1929, in Lynchburg, Virginia, he was a son of the late Collier and Ruth Elizabeth Gray Harvey.

Collier graduated from Hampden-Sydney College and Union Theological Seminary. He received an honorary Doctorate of Divinity from King College. He was married to Betty Ann “Betsy” McFadden Harvey for 61 years.

Collier served pastorates in Hillsboro; Kingsport, Tennessee; and Fishersville and Salem, Virginia. He served as General Presbyter of Fincastle Presbytery and held chaplaincies at Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center and the Roanoke Valley Psychiatric Center.

Collier and Betsy retired to Sunnyside Retirement Community in 1999, and were active members at Massanutten Presbyterian Church. Following retirement, Collier continued to serve in various supply, interim pastoral and presbytery executive roles.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Ruth Gray Lightner; four children, Ann Gray Harvey, and Thomas Schultz, of Brimingham, Alabama, Virginia Harvey Martin, and husband, Brian, of Rockville, Maryland, Lois Harvey Stanton, and husband, Tim, of Chester, Virginia, and Mary Harvey Tadler, and husband, John, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and five grandchildren, Samuel Wells Martin, Ted Collier Stanton, Jessie Elizabeth Martin, Molly Ann Tadler and Corrina.

A service of Witness to the Resurrection was held October 11 at Massanutten Presbyterian Church, Penn Laird, Virginia.
